The State Border Security Reinforcement Fund (SBSRF) is a major federal initiative administered by FEMA to address urgent border security needs at both state and local levels. Established under the Working Families Tax Cut Act of 2025, this program funds projects that reinforce the U.S. southern border through construction activities, detection and interdiction of illicit substances and unlawful entrants, and relocation operations. The SBSRF features both forward-looking and retroactive funding pathways, allowing reimbursement for eligible costs incurred from January 20, 2021, onward. Only State Administrative Agencies (SAAs) can submit applications, but local governments may participate as subrecipients. The program prioritizes projects that align with federal border enforcement priorities and demonstrate robust operational capacity and interagency coordination.
