Description
This funding opportunity, administered by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) under the CDC, aims to support and strengthen state and jurisdictional occupational safety and health (OSH) surveillance programs. The program’s objectives are to:
- Assess the extent and severity of workplace illnesses, injuries, exposures, and fatalities.
- Identify workers and occupations at greatest risk.
- Establish priorities for follow-up activities, including in-depth surveillance, outreach, prevention, intervention, and policy development.
- Develop networks of partners to interpret and disseminate OSH surveillance data.
- Communicate educational materials and resources tailored to specific audiences to optimize uptake and adoption for worker protection.
- Measure the effectiveness of prevention activities.
- Address gaps in federal and national OSH surveillance data.
Funded programs are expected to be resourceful and proactive in identifying and accessing data sources, which may include developing new data linkages or surveillance methods. The program is designed to build upon or establish public health capacity and expertise in OSH surveillance, especially in states or jurisdictions where such capacity is limited or does not exist.
