Summary: Supports state-level offices to strengthen rural health care delivery by linking rural communities with state and federal resources for improved access and quality of care.
This federal program funds State Offices of Rural Health (SORH) to serve as the institutional focal point for rural health within each state. The SORH program aims to enhance rural health care delivery systems by linking small rural communities to state and federal resources, fostering long-term solutions for improved access and quality of care for nearly 60 million rural Americans. Key activities include maintaining a clearinghouse for rural health information, coordinating rural health activities to avoid redundancy, and providing technical assistance to help public and nonprofit entities participate in rural health programs. SORHs may also support workforce recruitment and retention and collaborate with partners to address priority health issues.
