Summary: Supports U.S. scholars to teach about the American experience in social sciences and humanities at Japanese universities, with opportunities for curriculum development and community engagement.
This award provides U.S. scholars the opportunity to teach undergraduate or graduate courses in Japan, focusing on topics related to the "American experience" from an American academic perspective. The program emphasizes classroom teaching in fields such as history, public policy, sociology, law, literature, communications, education, political science, business management, and related disciplines. Scholars may design their own courses or teach those designated by the host institution, often splitting their teaching load between two universities. In addition to teaching, grantees are encouraged to mentor students, assist with curriculum and program development, and engage with the host community through public talks and outreach. The program aims to foster international understanding and cooperation between the U.S. and Japan.
