Description
The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) offers a postdoctoral research opportunity focused on physical oceanography, specifically the evolution and impacts of submesoscale eddies within high-resolution ocean model systems. The research aims to improve understanding of small-scale ocean dynamics and their influence on the broader ocean environment.
Postdoctoral researchers will engage in:
- Performing and analyzing high-resolution (250 to 500 m horizontal resolution) hydrostatic and non-hydrostatic ocean model simulations that resolve submesoscale eddies.
- Developing and applying techniques to evaluate the local and remote dynamic and thermodynamic impacts of small-scale ocean features.
- Investigating and characterizing variability at submesoscale, small-scale, and mesoscale levels, including seasonal and subseasonal changes.
- Utilizing remote sensing and in situ observational data to analyze small-scale ocean features.
This fellowship provides an opportunity to work at the NRL's Ocean Sciences division located at Stennis Space Center, MS, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and mentorship from experienced researchers.
