The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), part of the NIH, is continuing the Superfund Hazardous Substance Research and Training Program (SRP Centers). This program funds research centers that conduct integrated, problem-based, solution-oriented research on hazardous substances. Centers must combine biomedical and environmental science and engineering projects and include administrative, translational, engagement, and research support cores. The program’s goal is to advance knowledge and practical solutions for the detection, assessment, treatment, and prevention of hazardous substance exposures and their health effects, as mandated by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986.
