The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF)@JPL program offers undergraduate students a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on research at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The program is modeled on the grant-seeking process: students work closely with JPL mentors to define a research project, develop a proposal, and, if selected, conduct research over a ten-week summer period. The experience is enhanced by weekly seminars, professional development workshops, writing workshops, networking dinners, and field trips designed to foster academic and professional growth.
Participants are expected to submit a technical paper and deliver an oral presentation at the conclusion of the program. The fellowship is designed to support students considering research careers and graduate school.
