Summary: Supports mid-career technologists to research and engage on technology, foreign policy, and national security issues at CFR.
The Technologist-in-Residence Fellowship, sponsored by the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Fund for Strategic Innovation and hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), aims to bridge the gap between technology practice and policy. Each year, one mid-career technologist with deep technical experience (such as in software development, AI, cybersecurity, or data infrastructure) is selected to spend ten months at CFR. Fellows research and discuss critical issues at the intersection of technology, foreign policy, and national security, and contribute to CFR’s events and programming. The residency is intended to foster interdisciplinary knowledge-sharing and professional networks, deepening understanding of how technology shapes global affairs. The fellowship is based at CFR’s New York or Washington, DC, offices and is primarily an in-person experience.
