Summary: Fellowship offers thoracic surgeons immersive industry-academic training in clinical trial research and thoracic oncology at AstraZeneca.
This fellowship provides thoracic surgeons with a unique, hands-on opportunity to train in clinical trial design, protocol development, data analysis, and clinical research in thoracic oncology. The selected fellow spends 9–12 months onsite at an AstraZeneca facility (Gaithersburg, MD or Waltham, MA), gaining experience in early- and late-stage clinical development, including immunotherapy and cell therapy for cancers such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and esophageal cancer. The program emphasizes the development of skills in designing and executing clinical research projects, understanding predictors of therapy response, identifying early response endpoints, and ensuring surgical quality in clinical trials. Fellows are encouraged to publish and present their research outcomes, building a foundation for a future career as a clinical trialist in thoracic surgical oncology.
