Description
This fellowship provides thoracic surgeons with an immersive, 12-month industry-academic experience in thoracic oncology clinical research. Fellows work onsite at an AATS pharmaceutical industry partner (currently AstraZeneca), gaining direct exposure to clinical trial design, protocol development, endpoint selection, and data interpretation. The program emphasizes the completion of a clinical research project within the fellowship year, with opportunities for publication and presentation.
Learning objectives include understanding predictors of therapy response, designing trials for novel drug combinations, examining the role of surgery in clinical trials, and ensuring quality surgical procedures are integrated into study design. Fellows participate in all aspects of clinical trial conduct and late-stage clinical development, with mentorship from both academic and industry leaders.
