Description

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) titled "Transforming Industry: Strategies for Decarbonization." The purpose of this RFI is to gather information to support a new DOE vision study, Pathways for U.S. Industrial Transformations: Unlocking American Innovation. This study aims to identify cost-effective and industry-specific strategic pathways to achieve a thriving U.S. industrial sector with net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.

The RFI seeks input across four key categories:

• Category 1: Industrial Decarbonization Challenges, Barriers, and Cross-Cutting Strategies
• Category 2: Framework for Industrial Decarbonization Pathways
• Category 3: Impacts and Evaluation Criteria for Industrial Decarbonization Pathways
• Category 4: Net-zero Decarbonization Pathways for Specific Industrial Subsectors

The focus is on technological, financial, social, environmental, and health aspects related to the challenges, barriers, opportunities, and pathways for achieving net-zero emissions in the industrial sector by 2050.

IEDO encourages responses from a diverse range of stakeholders integral to the transformation of U.S. industry, including but not limited to:

• Industrial companies and associated communities
• Utilities and low-carbon fuel suppliers
• Technology developers and engineering consultants
• Firms designing new industrial facilities
• Local and regional governments

This RFI is intended solely to collect information and is not a funding opportunity announcement (FOA). No applications or proposals for funding will be accepted.

Due Dates

• RFI Response Deadline: June 24, 2024, by 5:00 PM Eastern Time (ET)
• Only electronic responses will be accepted.

Funding Amount

• This is a Request for Information only; no funding or awards will be made.

Eligibility

• Open to a broad range of stakeholders including industry, academia, government, utilities, technology developers, and community organizations involved in or affected by industrial decarbonization.

Application Process

• Responses must be submitted electronically via email to:

• Include “Transforming Industry RFI” in the subject line of the email.
• Responses should be provided as attachments (preferably Microsoft Word documents) and must not exceed 3 pages, using 12-point font and 1-inch margins.
• Attachments larger than 25MB should be compressed (zipped).
• No paper or other forms of submission will be accepted.

Additional Information

• The RFI will inform DOE’s strategic planning and future funding opportunities related to industrial decarbonization.
• Input will help shape the development of cost-effective, scalable, and equitable pathways to achieve net-zero GHG emissions in the industrial sector by 2050.
• Stakeholders are encouraged to provide detailed insights on challenges, barriers, evaluation criteria, and specific sector pathways.
