    Description

This opportunity funds research that bridges the gap between research, clinical practice, and policy in the areas of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and psychological health. The program seeks to generate real-world evidence on implementing interventions, clinical guidelines, or policies for targeted populations, with a strong emphasis on health services research. Projects must include clinical research or clinical trials involving human subjects, data, or anatomical substances. Preliminary data are required, and all research must be hypothesis-driven and focused on implementation, comparative effectiveness, or validation of existing interventions—novel, untested interventions are not eligible under this mechanism.

Distinctive features of this award include:

    • Support for comparative effectiveness research, implementation of interventions/guidelines, and validation of data science insights.
    • Prohibition of basic, preclinical, and animal research.
    • Required use of community-based participatory research (CBPR) approaches for prospective human subject enrollment.
    • An Early-Career Investigator Partnering Option, allowing two PIs (one early-career, within 10 years of terminal degree) to apply jointly, each receiving a separate award if funded.

The research must address at least one sub-area within the program's focus areas: prevention/assessment, treatment, or improving adoption/access to care for TBI and psychological health.
