    Description

This opportunity funds translational research projects that move scientific findings toward impactful clinical applications in the fields of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and psychological health. The program emphasizes innovative, non-incremental research that can lead to transformative healthcare products, technologies, or clinical practice guidelines benefiting military personnel, veterans, and the broader public. Applications must address at least one specified focus area related to understanding, preventing, assessing, or treating TBI and/or psychological health conditions. Basic research and clinical trials are strictly prohibited; instead, the focus is on preclinical, translational, and applied research with clear potential for clinical impact.

    Distinctive features include:

    • Two research levels (Level 1: refinement of mature ideas; Level 2: evaluation of products before first-in-human studies)
    • Early-Career Investigator Partnering Option (each PI receives a separate award)
    • Required preliminary data for all applications
    • For studies prospectively enrolling human subjects, a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach is mandatory
