The fellowship is designed to develop centers of excellence in gastrointestinal (GI) surgery worldwide by allowing recipients to visit SSAT member institutions, participate in Digestive Disease Week (DDW), and present their plans for advancing GI surgery in their home countries. Fellows also receive a five-year complimentary SSAT membership and serve for one year on the International Outreach Committee.
