Summary: Supports projects educating American Indian/Alaska Native youth on pregnancy, STI, and HIV prevention, and adulthood preparation topics, using evidence-based, culturally appropriate approaches.

    Description

This opportunity funds projects that educate American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth (ages 10–19) and expectant or parenting youth under age 21 about abstinence and contraception to prevent pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and HIV. The program also promotes a successful transition to adulthood by requiring education in at least three of six Adulthood Preparation Subjects (APS): healthy relationships, adolescent development, financial literacy, parent-child communication, educational and career success, and healthy life skills.

    Projects must:

    • Replicate or incorporate elements of evidence-based programs proven to change youth behavior within AI/AN tribal communities (e.g., delaying sexual activity, increasing condom/contraceptive use, reducing pregnancy).
    • Ensure content is medically accurate, age-appropriate, and delivered in a culturally relevant context.
