The Visiting Researcher program at the Russell Sage Foundation offers short-term, non-funded residencies of up to five months for scholars conducting research relevant to the Foundation’s priority social science areas. Residents are provided with an office, computing resources, and library access at the Foundation’s New York City headquarters. Scholars coming from outside the greater NYC area may be eligible for partially subsidized housing, subject to availability.
The program is designed to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration among social scientists, journalists, and Foundation staff through daily lunch discussions, weekly seminars, and informal networking. Visiting Researchers are expected to spend at least 75% of their residency on-site, participate actively in the Foundation community, and contribute to a vibrant intellectual environment. The residency is ideal for scholars seeking to complete major projects or benefit from intensive interaction with peers in the social sciences.
