Summary: Two-month research residencies for senior scholars in the history, theory, and criticism of the visual arts, with access to the National Gallery of Art’s resources.
The Visiting Senior Fellowships provide scholars with two-month, full-time research appointments in residence at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA) at the National Gallery of Art. Fellows receive an office in the East Building and, subject to availability, housing near the Gallery. The program supports research in the history, theory, and criticism of the visual arts across all periods and geographical areas, and especially encourages projects in understudied fields (notably for the Leonard A. Lauder Visiting Senior Fellowship). Fellows participate in lectures, colloquia, and scholarly discussions with the Center’s vibrant academic community.
