Description
This U.S. Mission to Indonesia opportunity funds the design, implementation, and management of a national high school debate championship program. The initiative aims to build critical thinking, public speaking, and English-language skills among Indonesian secondary school students, while fostering civic engagement and deeper connections with American values of free expression and democratic discourse. The program will establish debate teams in at least 20 schools across Jakarta, Samarinda, Makassar, and Padang, provide training for teachers and coaches, and culminate in a national debate championship in Jakarta. The project is intended to counter anti-American narratives, promote regional security and trade cooperation, and strengthen people-to-people ties between Indonesia and the United States.
