Description
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) administers Volkswagen settlement-funded grant and incentive programs, supported by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. The initiative offsets excess nitrogen oxide emissions caused by Volkswagen’s diesel emissions fraud while helping Massachusetts reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and electrify its transportation network.
Supported investments include electric transit buses and chargers, light-duty charging infrastructure, and eligible vehicle, equipment, and shore-power projects. The broader settlement framework also covers hydrogen dispensing equipment and projects eligible under the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA). Priorities include serving environmental justice populations, distributing investments equitably across Massachusetts, and advancing technological and policy progress in transportation emissions reduction.
