The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Optical Sciences Division’s Fiber Photonics Section offers a postdoctoral research opportunity focused on warm vapor atom-light interactions for sensing applications. The research targets detection of signals across DC to GHz frequency regimes, including electric, magnetic, acoustic, and inertial signals. The work involves both theoretical and experimental approaches, as well as applied research with field testing in real-world environments.
Recent achievements include the development and deployment of a Cesium-vapor magnetometer operating at ambient temperature. Candidates are expected to independently conduct research, present findings orally, and prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
Ideal applicants have a strong background in optics and/or atomic physics and possess skills in software development for data acquisition and analysis.
