This fellowship advances responsible marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) in the Salish Sea by ensuring that scientific models for tracking and verifying carbon removal are informed by the communities and stakeholders most affected. The selected fellow will unite Tribal rightsholders, coastal communities, environmental justice organizations, resource managers, and scientists to share perspectives, build trust, and collaboratively shape the development and use of mCDR monitoring and modeling tools. A central component is organizing and leading a regional community convening, with significant pre-event outreach and ongoing engagement afterward. The fellowship emphasizes transparency, relevance, and long-term collaboration to align climate solutions with local values and priorities, while providing the fellow with professional development and networking opportunities across the U.S. and Canada.
