The Wayne F. Placek Grants support innovative research that advances public understanding of homosexuality and sexual orientation, and aims to alleviate the stress and adversity experienced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. The program encourages studies on topics such as societal attitudes toward LGBTQIA+ people, discrimination, family and workplace issues, and the unique concerns of underrepresented sectors within the LGBTQIA+ population—including a dedicated grant focused on issues concerning Black LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities, to be conducted by scholars of color. Since its inception, the Placek Fund has awarded over $1 million in support of LGBTQIA+ research.
