Description
This funding opportunity from the European Commission under Horizon Europe supports the development of human-centric Web 4.0 architectural frameworks and open internet stack applications, with a focus on virtual worlds. The call aims to foster the emergence of interoperable, secure, and open-source standards, protocols, and solutions for Web 4.0 and virtual worlds at a European and global scale. Projects should either:
- Build cross-platform, open-source architectural frameworks (the "Architectural Framework" area), or
- Develop open-source, standards-based, decentralised applications and services for virtual worlds (the "Applications" area), such as messaging, videoconferencing, collaboration tools, or social media.
Proposals must demonstrate technical maturity, active community support, and evidence of user interest, while ensuring compliance with EU regulations on trust, privacy, and identity management. Collaboration, standardisation, and synergy with other European and international digital initiatives are strongly encouraged.
