    Description

The Wolf Humanities Center at the University of Pennsylvania awards five Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships each academic year. The program brings humanities scholars into an interdisciplinary community organized around an annual topic, combining independent research with teaching, seminars, and public programming. The 2027–2028 topic is Empire.

The Forum on Empire invites concrete, materialist investigations of any facet of empire, including struggles against imperialism and colonialism, across any geographical region or historical period. Its interests include culture’s role in imperial governance and resistance, the production and circulation of knowledge, and the institutions and ideologies that sustain or challenge imperial power. Preference is given to interdisciplinary proposals that would particularly benefit from and contribute to Penn’s intellectual life, and to candidates not yet in tenure-track positions.
