Summary: Empowers local high school students to lead participatory grantmaking and fund projects addressing youth issues in the Rappahannock River Region.
The Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program, established by the Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region, is a youth-driven initiative that empowers area high school students to learn about philanthropy, leadership, and community service. Through YIP, students actively participate in the grantmaking process: they research community needs, prepare and review grant proposals from nonprofits, conduct site visits, and recommend grant awards. The program aims to address key issues affecting local youth by funding projects that are led by, actively involve, or directly benefit youth in the region. Each year, YIP awards a grant—typically $10,000—to a nonprofit or project serving youth in Caroline, Fredericksburg, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford.
