The Zip Books Grant, administered by the California State Library, enables California public libraries and their affiliated groups to provide patrons with quick access to books not available in their collections. When a patron requests a book, the library purchases it from a qualified vendor and ships it directly to the patron’s home. After reading, the patron returns the book to the library, where it is then added to the permanent collection. The program is designed to expand library offerings, streamline access to diverse materials, and foster resource sharing among libraries. Participating libraries are expected to follow program policies, participate in community of practice sessions, and provide data and feedback for ongoing program improvements.
