--- ## Description The Montana Healthcare Foundation's annual Call for Proposals funds Montana-based organizations to develop and pilot innovative solutions to pressing health challenges. The program emphasizes projects that address unmet health needs, foster strong partnerships, and demonstrate sustainability beyond the grant term. Proposals are evaluated holistically, with preference given to those serving at-risk populations, advancing new solutions not currently implemented, and being culturally and geographically appropriate for Montana. The initiative supports both large and small communities, with a particular emphasis on rural and frontier areas. --- ## Due Dates - Applications due: March 31, 2026 - Opportunity opens: January 15, 2026 - Funding decision: June 15, 2026 - Project start date: July 1, 2026 --- ## Funding Amount - **Planning Projects:** Grants between $10,000 and $50,000 for one-year (12-month) projects focused on strategic, business, or sustainability planning. - **Implementation Projects:** Up to $100,000 for two-year (24-month) projects with strong business and sustainability plans. Larger implementation awards are highly competitive. - **Indirect costs:** Up to 15% of the total grant amount may be used for indirect costs. --- ## Eligibility Eligible applicants must be Montana-based organizations, defined as being organized, incorporated, and having offices in Montana. Specific eligible entities include: - Tax-exempt charitable organizations described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (excluding private foundations and type III non-functionally integrated supporting organizations under section 509(a)) - Tax-exempt educational institutions - State, tribal, or local government agencies Additional notes: - Organizations part of a national chain may apply for funding restricted to their Montana-based operations. - Applicants may use a portion of the budget to fund consultants who do not meet these eligibility criteria. - Each organization may submit up to three different applications per year. **Not eligible:** - Individuals, for-profit businesses, private foundations, and organizations that discriminate. - Projects for maintenance/expansion of existing programs, capital campaigns, operating deficits, construction, large equipment purchases, or medical research lacking direct benefit to Montanans. --- ## Application Process 1. **Review eligibility and selection criteria** on the [program page](https://mthf.org/grants/call-for-proposals/). 2. **Prepare your application** using the [2026 Call for Proposals application questions (PDF)](https://mthf.org/wp-content/uploads/2026-CFP-Application.pdf). 3. **Register or log in** to the [Montana Healthcare Foundation Grants Portal](https://montanahealth.smartsimple.com/s_Login.jsp?lang=1&prole=0). 4. **Submit your proposal** by March 31, 2026. You may submit up to three distinct proposals per eligible organization per year. 5. **Optional:** Attend the overview webinar (February 12, 2026) for guidance on the application process. 6. **Await funding decision:** Notifications will be made by June 15, 2026. **Required application materials:** - Organization and leadership information - Project summary and description - Budget and budget narrative - Work plan and evaluation plan - Letters of support (optional but recommended for key partners) - Documentation of partnerships and sustainability plans --- ## Additional Information - **Selection criteria** include: importance, need, sustainability, partnerships, focus on at-risk populations, new solutions, cultural and geographic appropriateness, feasibility, and stakeholder involvement. - **Preference** is given to projects serving rural/frontier communities and American Indian populations (with required tribal collaboration). - **Supplanting restriction:** Grant funds may not supplant government or other funding sources; they must supplement existing resources.
