Description
Sponsored by Virginia Sea Grant, the Virginia Environmental Endowment, and the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program, the Commonwealth Coastal & Marine Policy Fellowship pairs post-graduates with mentors in state or local government offices. Fellows contribute to projects advancing stewardship, resilience, and sustainable use of Virginia’s coastal and marine resources while gaining experience in how science informs public decisions.
The fellowship develops skills in policy analysis, project management, stakeholder engagement, science communication, and applied research. Projects described for the 2026–2027 fellowship year address healthy waters, flood resilience planning, coastal habitat management and permitting, and regional resilience policy. The program also brings university knowledge into host offices to support their work on coastal and marine challenges.
