Description
The South Carolina Department of Education’s (SCDE) Gifted and Talented Graduate Course Program supports tuition-free graduate coursework for teachers pursuing endorsement or certification in gifted and talented (GT) education. Administered by the Office of Assessment and Standards, the program uses legislative appropriations to help prepare teachers assigned to teach gifted and talented students. It funds institutions offering courses rather than individual teachers, classroom projects, or research.
Supported topics include gifted learners’ nature and needs, introductory and advanced curriculum and instruction, student identification, current trends and issues, social and emotional needs, special-topic seminars, and other gifted education topics. SCDE encourages online, distance, and hybrid delivery to reach educators in rural areas as well as population centers. Proposals should address technology and remote-delivery challenges.
