Description
The Joint Center for Aerospace Technology Innovation (JCATI) connects Washington aerospace companies with engineering expertise at the state’s public universities. An engineering faculty member applies with an industry partner whose technology challenge needs a practical solution. JCATI funding primarily supports students working on that challenge, while the company helps define it, supports the project, and brings the technology back into its operations.
JCATI prefers applied projects advancing technologies at Technology Readiness Levels 4–7, with a strong prospect of transition to the industry partner. Aerospace is interpreted broadly: potential topics include AI and software, materials, propulsion, manufacturing, cybersecurity, airport systems, space systems, and UAVs. The program does not fund basic research, long-term research, industry-sponsored research, or capstone projects.
