    Description

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ), within the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP), offers this continuation funding opportunity to enhance operations of the Novel Psychoactive Substance Discovery, Education, and Reporting Institute (NPS Discovery). Its purpose is to rapidly identify and report newly emerging opioids, stimulants, and other drugs that may cause intoxication, impairment, or other adverse effects.

The program supports an open-access drug early warning system, analytical resources for laboratories, a forensically relevant drug database, and education and knowledge transfer. Work includes drug surveillance and sample testing, research on metabolism and pharmacology, confirmatory method development, testing recommendations, and dissemination through reports, toolkits, publications, webinars, and a stakeholder listserv.
