Description

The Supportive Housing Institute, supported by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), is designed to help smaller and less experienced developers enter the affordable and supportive housing sector in Illinois. Delivered via a grant to the Corporation for Supportive Housing, the Institute provides a comprehensive pipeline for organizations and teams interested in developing supportive housing, particularly in regions of Illinois with high unmet needs outside the Chicago-Metro area.

Participants benefit from a structured curriculum of ten training sessions, hands-on technical assistance, and the opportunity to assemble a multidisciplinary team (including property managers, developers, and service providers) to create a detailed development and management plan for high-quality supportive housing. The Institute specifically encourages projects serving priority populations such as those experiencing chronic homelessness, veterans, people with disabilities, seniors, and individuals re-entering the community.

Graduates of the Institute are positioned to pursue further funding, including from IHDA’s Permanent Supportive Housing Development Program, and may receive a Predevelopment Quality Endorsement to validate their project’s standards.
