    Description

The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), within the U.S. Department of Justice, supports the development and operation of nonprofit, nongovernmental Tribal domestic violence and sexual assault coalitions. The program assists Indian Tribes and Native Hawaiian communities in responding to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and stalking.

Funds must support one or more program purposes: increasing awareness of violence against Indian or Native Hawaiian women; enhancing federal, state, and Tribal responses; providing technical assistance that improves access to essential services; or developing legislation and policies that advance effective responses. Recognized coalitions receive equal base funding. Sexual assault and dual domestic violence/sexual assault coalitions receive additional funding for sexual assault-focused activities.
