Description
Virginia Sea Grant’s Graduate Fellowship supports graduate students conducting coastal- or marine-related research and other evidence-based inquiry relevant to Virginia communities. Work may span natural or social sciences, engineering and design, policy and legal analysis, architecture, business, education, arts, and humanities. Projects must advance the goals of Virginia Sea Grant’s strategic plan, which addresses coastal communities and economies, fisheries and aquaculture, ecosystems, workforce development, and environmental literacy.
The fellowship also develops students’ professional skills. Fellows work with a professional mentor who can help translate their findings into useful knowledge for stakeholders. Virginia Sea Grant emphasizes collaborative problem-solving, community engagement, and the application of research in practice.
