Description
The New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS) administers federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding through its Victim and Witness Assistance Unit. The program supports community-based organizations and public agencies providing direct assistance to crime victims, including crisis counseling, information and referrals, advocacy, shelter, therapy, and legal assistance.
Funding can sustain existing programs, expand services, or develop new approaches addressing emerging needs and service gaps. OVS seeks trauma-informed services, innovation, and outreach to victims who do not seek assistance themselves. Priorities include underserved populations, community violence intervention, and access throughout New York State. Training, coordination, and program evaluation may support direct service delivery; research and studies other than project evaluation are prohibited.
