    Description

The Botanical Society of America (BSA) administers the Bill Dahl Graduate Student Research Awards to support and promote graduate research in the botanical sciences. The award group includes the J. S. Karling Graduate Student Research Award, also called the John S. Karling Award, and the AJ Harris Graduate Student Research Award. Funding supports recipients’ proposed research and its potential contribution to botany.

The AJ Harris award was established in 2023 and first presented in 2024. It honors a longtime BSA member whose integrative research spanned specimen-based science, paleobotany, phylogenomics, biogeography, and computational biology. The memorial also recognizes Harris’s support for women in botany and diversity at all levels. Applicants may request consideration for this award within the shared application.
