Key Information: DOE/NNSA National Laboratories cannot apply directly but may participate as proposed subrecipients.

    Description

The Department of Energy’s Office of Science (SC) uses this annual open solicitation to receive research applications across its congressionally authorized mission. It supports work in Advanced Scientific Computing Research, Basic Energy Sciences, Biological and Environmental Research, Fusion Energy Sciences, High Energy and Nuclear Physics, and Isotope R&D and Production. The program supports basic research that advances scientific understanding rather than an applicant’s commercial activity or current customer needs.

Applications may be submitted throughout the solicitation period. Certain topics have scheduled review panels requiring an encouraged pre-application, while BES research areas use target dates to facilitate consideration for fiscal-year funding. ASCR generally funds basic research through targeted solicitations or specific panels; early communication with the relevant subprogram contact is recommended.
