Description
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Nonpoint Source Program supports projects that reduce pollution carried by runoff or groundwater into Tennessee waters. Administered by the department’s Land and Water Stewardship Section on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it receives funding under Section 319(h) of the Clean Water Act. The program promotes voluntary, incentive-based solutions through Best Management Practices (BMPs), watershed implementation, and education and training.
For FY 2027, the highest priority is restoring waters listed as impaired by nonpoint source pollution. Projects should identify and eliminate pollution sources so waters fully support their designated uses. The second priority is protecting Exceptional Tennessee Waters and Outstanding National Resource Waters. Education projects are the third priority and may reach statewide audiences or specific groups whose decisions can reduce pollution.
