Description
The AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards honor distinguished reporting on the sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Administered by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the program has recognized professional journalists since 1945. Its purpose is to encourage better public understanding of science and its impact through rigorous, informed reporting and writing, rather than to fund research or project development.
An endowment from The Kavli Foundation supports the awards, and a doubling of that endowment in 2015 enabled entries from journalists worldwide in all categories. The contest recognizes print and online reporting, magazine journalism, audio, video, and science news for children. Public-interest and investigative reporting are encouraged when they substantively address science and its role in society. Health and medical reporting should have a significant science component.
