Description
The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) supports residents developing expertise in substance use disorders (SUD), especially opioid use disorder. The award combines a mentor-supervised project with conferences, workshops, and interaction with experts. Its goals are to improve health care providers’ knowledge and use of evidence-based treatment and develop future clinician leaders in SUD management.
The year-long experience culminates in an educational, quality improvement, or dissemination project addressing identified knowledge gaps. Suitable work includes bridging curriculum gaps through lectures or seminars, developing materials that integrate evidence-based treatment into medical settings, or analyzing existing de-identified clinical trial data to inform dissemination. The emphasis is on clinically relevant applications of existing research, with project results shared through dissemination and publication.
