Summary: Supports postdoctoral and clinical research fellows conducting mentored basic cancer research to establish successful cancer research careers.
Key Information: Applicants must meet a three-year post-degree or residency window, with limited leave exceptions.
The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), in partnership with the John and Elizabeth Leonard Family Foundation, supports postdoctoral and clinical research fellows as they establish a career path in cancer research. Proposed projects may address any area of basic cancer research, without restriction to a particular cancer type or topic.
The fellowship combines support for the fellow’s salary and benefits with funding for the practical costs of conducting and publishing a mentored research project. Its competitive letter-of-intent process identifies projects with strong scientific potential and alignment with the program before inviting full applications. Review considers the applicant’s preparation and potential for independence, the proposed science, and, at the full application stage, the mentor and training environment.
