The AAFP Foundation’s Family Medicine Cares Resident Service Award supports residents who design and implement community service projects addressing health disparities and unmet health care needs among underserved populations. Residents work with a health care organization, such as a free clinic, community health center, or health department, to enhance services in their local communities.
Projects run for 12 months and should deliver benefits that continue beyond the funded period. They must also be suitable for continuation or replication by future family medicine residents. The award package supports project expenses, the partner health care organization, residency recognition, and travel to present an interim update at AAFP’s FUTURE conference. The Foundation encourages applicants who reflect the diversity of family medicine and the patients served.
