Description
The American Academy of Neurology’s Health Care Equity Program helps neurologists develop customized roadmaps to mitigate health care disparities at their own institutions. The cohort experience combines personal development, learning about disparities, and individual project work. Participants gain practical tools and resources they can put into action in their institutional settings.
The 2027–2028 program begins at the 2027 AAN Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, followed by three virtual meetings before graduation in March 2028. Projects can address barriers to neurologic care, culturally and linguistically appropriate patient communication, health literacy, or equitable access to specialty services. Published examples include improving adult neurology access for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities and investigating disparities in access to advanced Parkinson’s disease therapies.
