    Description

The René M. Vandervelde Research Grant is administered by the Association of Applied Paleontological Sciences (AAPS) and sponsored by Korite International. Established with annual support beginning in 2007, it supports qualified students and researchers working on the marine paleontology, geology, or stratigraphy of the Late Cretaceous Pierre and Bearpaw Shales of North America. The grant aims to encourage scientific research and publications on the fauna and flora of these deposits.

The sponsor’s connection to this research includes collecting ammonites from the Bearpaw Shale of Alberta and marketing Ammolite gems and jewelry worldwide. Proposed research is reviewed by the AAPS Board of Directors and a Korite International representative before the association’s membership votes on approval.
