Description
The Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) offers this annual travel award to three medical students as part of its mission to increase diversity in its membership. It recognizes students underrepresented through race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, military service, or other personal identification, including students originating from medically underserved areas. Students in any year of medical school may apply.
The award supports participation in the Academic Surgical Congress rather than funding a research project. Registration, travel, and hotel support help recipients engage with the annual meeting and the academic surgery community. Application materials address students’ interest in academic surgery, how their backgrounds have shaped their journeys, and their leadership potential and commitment to academic and professional growth. Recipients also receive recognition at the AAS Awards Ceremony and on the association’s blog and website.
