Established by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery in 1985, the AATS Foundation Research Scholarship is an annually awarded early-career development program for a North American surgeon committed to an academic career in cardiothoracic surgery. It supports one early-career investigator through a dedicated research period, with opportunities for training and clinical experience.
The scholarship places the proposed research in the context of the applicant’s broader academic career goals. Funding supports salary and direct research-related academic expenses at the host institution. A Program Review Committee oversees rigorous peer review, and the Foundation monitors research progress through interim and final reports.
