Description
The Academic Clinical Trials Program (ACT), established in 2022 by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, now Blood Cancer United, funds investigator-initiated trials addressing unmet medical needs in blood cancer. It recognizes that academic research can pursue clinical benefits that diverge from commercial development pathways. The program primarily supports Phase 1 and Phase 2 trials testing new treatments, expanding uses of existing therapies, and optimizing patient care. Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research partners in co-funding ACT grants.
Priorities include precision medicines, novel immunotherapies, tumor microenvironment therapies, prevention or early intervention in premalignant conditions, personalized medicine and companion diagnostics, and improved stem cell transplantation. ACT seeks genuinely novel advances rather than incremental improvements and welcomes innovative trial designs, decentralized approaches, and emerging technologies such as AI. Patient involvement and health equity are explicit evaluation priorities.
