Description
The University of Wisconsin Academic Fellowship is a one-year program run by the UW Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. It gives family physicians educational and professional experiences aligned with their interests and career goals. Fellows combine continuity patient care and mentored inpatient attending work with resident precepting, medical student instruction, and training in adult learning.
Scholarship centers on designing and implementing a presentable, publishable project with support from a mentor committee. Projects may address clinical or educational research questions, curriculum design and evaluation, or innovative teaching methods. Monthly meetings with the director or mentors review educational plans and progress, while fellowship seminars develop teaching and scholarly skills. Community advocacy, health policy activities, professional meetings, and involvement in academic or physician organizations provide leadership opportunities.
