The American Association of Plastic Surgeons’ Academic Scholar Program offers two-year faculty research scholarships to surgeons entering academic careers in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The program helps recipients establish new, independent research programs and is intended for applicants who have demonstrated potential to work as independent investigators.
The scholarship supports salary and/or direct research costs while recipients devote a significant portion of their time to the proposed work. Institutional backing is central to the program: supporting letters must demonstrate commitments to the scholar’s academic position, research facilities, and research time. Funding supplements rather than replaces the compensation and benefits normally provided by the institution.
