Description
The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF), supports innovative drug discovery programs for frontotemporal degeneration (FTD). The program funds small molecule and biologic approaches, including antibodies, oligonucleotides, peptides, and gene therapy, with an emphasis on advancing novel disease-modifying treatments.
Priorities include lead optimization through medicinal chemistry refinement and in vitro absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion studies. The program also supports testing novel lead compounds, biologics, vaccines, and repurposed drug candidates in relevant animal models. These studies may examine pharmacokinetics, dose ranges, target engagement, in vivo efficacy, and preliminary rodent tolerability. Target identification or validation, assay development, and high-throughput or high-content screening are outside the program’s scope.
