Due Dates (Anticipated): April 2027 (Letter of Inquiry) | September 2027 (Full Proposal)
Funding Amounts: $150,000–$300,000 for projects lasting 12–24 months
Summary: Supports rigorous research on bar exam performance, examination design and efficacy, and study or preparation methods.
Key Information: Researchers must apply through an eligible U.S.-based tax-exempt organization; direct grants to individuals are not available.
AccessLex Institute’s Bar Success Research Grant Program funds well-designed, rigorous studies of the bar examination. Research priorities include predictors of bar exam performance, examination design and efficacy, and successful study or preparation methodologies. Proposals addressing other relevant aspects of the bar exam are also welcomed. Projects must have a clear research design and use appropriate methodologies.
Supported research may examine existing commercial bar preparation data, including information previously collected for past or currently matriculated students. Projects may also incorporate materials and services from Helix Bar Review, AccessLex’s nonprofit affiliate. The program distinguishes studying existing preparation data from purchasing preparation offerings: grant funds cannot pay for non-Helix commercial bar preparation programs or materials.
